He's Passionate About Creating Technology That Solves Problems

Jose Gomez, Founder and CEO of NetMinistry

Jose's been in this industry since the beginning, learning to program computers when he was seven years old. Since then, he's been building solutions that work to solve real-world problems.

Although he started programming early in his life, Jose started his professional career on the internet in 1995, building computers, running a BBS, and developing for DOS and Windows systems. His day jobs and educational pursuits were more sales and marketing oriented, but he always found a way to automate his work through development. "I can remember building a pretty robust CRM for myself during one of my first long term jobs, selling and doing company work for a toy company," he recalls. "It was built in qBasic, but had a pretty robust DOS-based user interface."

That same year, using his newborn son's face as the logo, he started a side business called Gomez Marketing. The company focused on internet marketing research, where he studied what was selling online and how it was being sold, reporting it back to his clients. The business produced decent revenue, but he didn't quit his day job - working as an advertising executive for a St. Petersburg media company. In 1998, he created a plan for a door-to-door computer sales company that gained local investor attention. Partnering with a local mortgage banker, the company gained investor commitments, but failed to launch due to personal tragedy. After a short time off, what followed her several more business, each slightly more successful than the one before.

In 1999, Jose accepted a position at The Christian Network, as the Internet Director. His position finally allowed him to work within his field, developing and expanding the web presence of properties for as PraiseTV and The Worship Network. Within 60 days, Jose drove traffic from less that 20k visitors per month to over 1M. Over the course of several years, he had created one of the world's largest social networks for Christan teens centered around music, culture, and discussion. Although he succeeded at his job and purpose there, he began to see a vision for using technology for churches and ministries. Then a pastor for a Tampa church, his relationships with local ministers gave him the intel he needed to begin creating this technology.

"Ultimately, my prayer is that people can do more, faster, and with more resources than before we showed up on the scene. That is true significance for me."

In March of 2001, Jose gave three month's notice after receiving several confirming messages that it was time to move. On July 1, 2001, he started a journey that would change him forever, and propel him towards what would eventually become NetMinistry. He lived the start-up entrepeneur life and self-funded the growth of the company, then called ChurchForce. From the success of making ChristianJobs.Com the #1 Christian career website in the world to the development of NetMinistry, he has been an active part of the company's operations, serving within development, sales, production, and management of his team.

"I have always had a very hands-on approach when it comes to NetMinistry. I love the business, the technology, and the potential impact it can have on ministry automation. Ultimately, my prayer is that people can do more, faster, and with more resources than before we showed up on the scene. That is true significance for me."

Jose is married to Mayra, an active partner and project coordinator in NetMinistry. She is also the founder of TruModel, a character development and training program for young girls. Together, they own Gomez Innovations, a holding company and incubator for problem-solving technology ideas. They live in Tampa, Florida and have four children. He holds two entrepreneur certifications and is an licensed and ordained minister. He joins weekly with his closest friends in a house church setting, and prays for the day that believers can unlock the potential of true community and living life together.

Above all, Jose attributes the success of the company to the many people who contributed their life and efforts to the day to day service of its clients. "I'm not smart enough to do this all on my own. The beauty of NetMinistry is that it's a constant work in progress, made better by those who love our clients enough to contribute to it. That's the real success - that in spite of the odds and losses along the way, we remain strong as a team, more passionate than ever to built the ultimate platform. At the end of the day, my prayer is that our passion will transcend the impossible and overtake it by God's grace."
